Formula
Tons = L × W × depth(in)/12 × density(lb/cu ft) ÷ 2,000.
Worked example
Inputs: Length = 50 ft; Width = 12 ft; Compacted depth = 2 in; Mix density (ask your plant) = 145 lb/cu ft.

FAQ
Is 145 lb/cu ft right?
It is a common placeholder for compacted hot mix; density varies by mix design, so use your supplier's number.
