Mulch, Gravel & Topsoil Calculator (Cubic Yards)
Cubic yards (and optional tons) of mulch, gravel, sand or soil for a bed or path.
Formula
Cubic yards = L(ft) × W(ft) × depth(in) ÷ 324 (since 27 cu ft × 12 in = 324). Tons = cu yd × supplier density.
Worked example
Inputs: Length = 20 ft; Width = 10 ft; Depth = 3 in; Material density from your supplier (0 = skip) = 0 tons/cu yd.

FAQ
Why ask for density?
Gravel and stone are sold by the ton and density varies by material and moisture, so use the figure your supplier quotes rather than a generic number.
How many 2 cu ft bags per yard?
27 ÷ 2 = 13.5 bags.
